Research Overview

Excavating silt and silty sand from Adapazari, Turkey (2006)

Our ongoing and upcoming research projects involve topics related to seismic soil-structure-interaction; soil-structure-underground structure-interaction in dense urban environments; seismic response of buried reservoir structures; consequences and mitigation of liquefaction in variable and layered deposits; performance-based earthquake engineering; interdisciplinary research involving sensing and information technology in the context of disasters. We employ centrifuge testing and advanced numerical analyses, and we work with diverse teams of researchers from across the campus. Our overarching goal is to enhance the resilience of our societies to natural disasters. See our list of publications here.
